How to Set Up my Dialpad Caller ID

Overview

Caller ID is what your customers see when you place a call. Ensuring it's set correctly helps build trust, boosts professionalism, and reduces confusion for both the caller and recipient.

 

In Dialpad, each user can select which number shows on outbound calls—whether it’s their direct number or a shared team line. Similarly, the caller ID you see for incoming calls can also be configured depending on where the call is directed (your personal line or a shared one like a main line or department).

 

Understanding and correctly setting your caller ID ensures:

  • The right number shows when you contact clients

  • You're aware which line an inbound call was routed through

  • You're aligned with company branding and customer expectations

 

Tools and Information Required

  • Access to your Dialpad account: dialpad.com/settings

  • Dialpad Desktop App

  • Dialpad Mobile App

  • Assigned phone numbers (personal and/or shared)

 

Steps

1. Log In to Dialpad Settings

2. Set Your Default Outbound Caller ID

3. Configure Incoming Caller ID Settings (Advanced)

4. Change Caller ID from the Desktop App

2. Set Your Default Outbound Caller ID

This setting controls which number appears when you make outbound calls from your mobile app.

 

  • Scroll to the Caller ID section
  • Choose the default number (e.g., your direct number or a team/shared line)

 

 

⚠️ Important Note: This only applies to calls made using the mobile app. To configure desktop app caller ID, see 4. Change Caller ID from the Desktop App

 

3. Configure Incoming Caller ID Settings (Advanced)

Define how Dialpad displays incoming calls based on the line receiving the call.

 

  • Scroll to Your Devices

  • Click Advanced

  • Under Incoming Caller ID, choose display preferences for:

    • Direct Number

    • Main Line/Departments

    • Executive Line (if applicable)

 

 

 

💡 Tip: We recommend showing the caller’s number and the line it came through for better call context.

 

 

4. Change Caller ID from the Desktop App

Quickly switch outbound numbers before making a call in the Desktop App.

 

  • Open the Dialpad Desktop App

  • Click the Phone icon (top-right)

  • Under New Call From, choose from either:

    • Your own profile; or

    • A shared line with a number

 

  • Then click Change beside "Your caller ID displays as" to select the number you want to display

 

 

✏️ Notes and Best Practices

  • Caller ID preferences do not automatically sync across mobile and desktop—review both

  • Check your settings after any change in role or number assignment

  • If you’re assigned to a shared line, be mindful of which number you are calling from
