Dialpad AI transcribes calls in real-time, and the accuracy of the transcription can be influenced by several factors. If you’re noticing issues with transcription accuracy, there are some adjustments you can make to help Dialpad’s models better understand your speech.
-
Use a good microphone to improve sound quality and reduce background noise.
-
Speak clearly and at a good volume, keeping your headset mic 1-3 inches away, or a non-headset mic 6-12 inches away.
-
Create a Company Dictionary to define any special terms or phrases used in your industry.
-
Choose a quiet space for calls to minimize noise and echo.
-
Use a wired internet connection or a strong 5GHz Wi-Fi for a stable connection.
1. Use a good microphone
To improve transcription accuracy, use a high-quality external microphone instead of your laptop’s built-in mic, which picks up background noise. A USB or standalone headset, placed close to your mouth, will help reduce noise. Check out our recommended headsets to ensure optimal setup.
Dialpad is integrated with Jabra and Poly (formerly Plantronics) UC (Unified Communications) headsets which provide an enhanced call experience.
Recommended Headset | Requirements |
Evolve 40 (wired headset)
|
To take advantage of this integration, the Jabra Direct must be installed on the computer with the Dialpad Desktop Application. |
Poly Blackwire (UC models)
Poly Voyager 8200
Poly Voyager 6200
Poly Voyager 5200
Poly Voyager Focus (UC) |
To take advantage of this integration, the Poly Hub software must be installed on the computer with the Dialpad Desktop Application. |
2. Speak clearly and at a good volume
Speak clearly and at a good volume—Ai may struggle with quiet or mumbled speech. Keep a headset mic 1-3 inches away, or a non-headset mic 6-12 inches from your mouth. Also, remember to take breaks and avoid long monologues, as our tech works best with conversational speech.
3. Create a Company Dictionary
Create a Company Dictionary to help Dialpad AI recognise your team’s jargon, industry terms, and unique words, improving transcription accuracy and enhancing the value of Dialpad’s time-saving AI features.

4. Choose a quiet space
Make calls in a quiet, echo-free environment. Choose a small, silent room to help Dialpad AI clearly understand your speech.
Turn on Ai Voice Isolation on your Dialpad app
- Click on the gear icon - Settings on the top right of your Dialpad app
- Tick the box for Ai Voice Isolation
5. Use a wired internet connection
A poor connection can cause choppy audio. Use a wired Ethernet connection if possible, or connect to a 5GHz Wi-Fi network for a stronger, more stable connection.
Run a Network Test to rule out your internet being a possible cause for voice issues impacting the accuracy or effectiveness of your call transcripts, follow the steps here: Dialpad Network Test
